I dare to say it, I’m quite excited for slow cooker season to start.
Whilst I’m not wishing away the sun and bright days, if there’s anything I look forward to with seasons changing into the dark and colder, it’s cosy nights and humbling food.
As you know, we’re both big on food, and we get enjoyment not only from eating out but also within our home creations. We hugely enjoy cooking (sometimes we might even argue over who’s turn it is) and even though we have our usual favourites, most dishes are put together by pure invention.Over in the dining room, we have various cookbooks collecting dust, for our kitchen has become the place of edible experiments where no instructions are followed or measurements considered. We cook by taste, eye and instinct. Most of the times our creations work, and at times, we have to succumb to our efforts.
With the past week’s weather ensuring we had the gloomiest of starts to September with wind, rain, and fog, there was an inner cry out for comfort food. Food that is hearty, wholesome and warming all the way through.During the winter months, the slow cooker makes his regular appearance where the mornings are spent prepping ingredients and by the evening after a day’s work, the magic has already happened.
Coming home to a well simmered slow-cooked meal is that mini-win.
Yesterday was our first meal from the slow cooker this year. We had a stew packed with seasonal vegetables, chicken and German dumplings (Knödel), and for the saucy bits, some bread to dip with.
