Manahatta Moments on Greek Street

Last month, Manahatta welcomed their second bar and restaurant in Leeds, another city centre location you can find on Greek Street.

This bar celebrates the 15th venue opening for Arc Inspirations, who opened their first bar, Arc in Headingley, in 2000, and have since then opened plenty of other successful venues including The Box, Trio, Banyan, Kith & Kin.

The list goes on.As for their newest opening, Manahatta is looking to bring a taste of New York to Leeds, and if you time it right, you might even spot their fabulous yellow cab outside.

As for the venue design and ambience, it brings a completely different atmosphere to its predecessor on Merrion Street. A swanky 1920’s NYC glamour vibe, with art-deco, open booths, and quirky lighting; cool and trendy. This Manahatta most definitely brings a Gatsby-esque feel to the scene, with neon cocktail signs, glowing blue evening lighting, coupled with plenty of chrome accessories. You could say the team achieved to bring the beat of New York to Leeds. The cocktail menu has ingeniously been developed by mixologist Mark Austin, who previously worked with American themed bar, The Savoy, in London.

The selection of drinks are impressive, not just from the sheer choice available, but the interesting combinations you’ll find mixed together too.Vodka and sherry, gin and prosecco, or even a gin and basil may all seem unlikely cocktail combinations, but believe me when I say they are delightful, and that Manahatta know their stuff.

So let’s get to the good stuff and see some of the delights I tried:

1. Manahatta Spritz Tanqueray gin, lemon, Campari, Manahatta cordial, grapefruit soda2. Central Park Bombay Sapphire gin, lemon, basil, sugar3. Linaje Libre Santa Teresa Linaje rum, Manahatta cordial, orange, bitters, ginger beer4. Loose Goose Grey Goose pear vodka, fig, sherry, almond, absinthe, lemon, Prosecco5. Sherbet Sipper II (below right) Portobello Road gin, Manahatta cordial, lemon, sherbet

6. Rolling Stone (below left) Russian Standard vodka, Campari, lemon, pineapple and passionfruit, raspberry, sugarFood wise, the team is looking to make their Greek Street venue the ultimate hub for brunches, serving up typical NY dishes, like their chicken on pancakes, or the Rockefeller breakfast, as well as Asian influenced ones such as their crispy chicken hirata buns or yakitori beef skewers.

And if you haven’t been yet, and the weather takes a good turn, I’d highly recommend a visit as Greek Street recently has become pedestrianised. It’s a summer change that will stay the same right through until the end of October. So if you’re keen for a visit, you can see all their latest information, as well as food and drink menus here

And if you have been, I’d love to hear what you thought of the venue?

Lots of love,

*I was invited to the soft launch of Manahatta in return for an honest review, and as always, my opinion is my own.

And I really love a good brew. If I'm not busy writing, I'll either be eating, sipping a cocktail, hiking or convincing my boyfriend we need another cat.
