Love cocktails? Love Leeds? Well, in that case, you’re in for a treat. Coming for the fifth time to Leeds is Leeds Loves Cocktails (LLC). A festival showcasing the finest cocktails and spirit brands, in addition to bars and the talent behind them that make this city’s colourful mixology so fabulous.
Last week I went to the preview night in Headrow House. Here, we met the brilliant minds behind the event, asked plenty of questions about LLC, tucked into two delicious featured cocktails, and even had a go at inventing our own concoction.Motto for the LLC festival: “drink better, not more.”
This year, the team behind the week-long festival, are looking to make the cocktail event that bit more different. Whilst you can still expect the exciting city hop-along bar tour, you’ll also have the chance to be dined whilst wined and be truly entertained.
The LLC team will be stepping the event game up, this one extra notch will match the thriving vibes of the city, see the event for the first time partner up with eateries that’ll go hand in hand with the bars and showcased spirits. From cocktail masterclasses learning how to mix the unknown with the known, to gin dinner pairings, a nine-hole golf course, poetry sessions and of course a UV party. The line-up only proves that Leeds Loves Cocktails knows how to through a seven day bender.
With spirit brands such as Bathtub Gin, Patrón, Grey Goose, Chambord and Slingsby (you can read about my experience with Slingsby here) to name a few, there’s plenty of flavours to try. Each brand, is then paired with a bar, allowing the festival to really show off some of our most awesome venues.
Of the 32 bars being showcased, there will be names you’ll recognise such as Vice & Virtue, Shears Yard, Chida Cantina, and Jake’s Bar.
What you’ll even see as part of the festival, is a one-off unique extra that has never been showcased before, exclusive to Leeds. On the night of the preview for LLC, we held cocktail competition, where in teams with our set products, we were challenged to create the ultimate tipple.
Although our drink was completely fabulous, the winning team (of which the lovely Tina was a part of) invented the Berry Long Bath. A gin based cocktail with mango juice, blackberries, basil, ground ginger and chipotle liquid. Fascinating right? Tina reveals more about the drink in her post.
So if you fancy the Berry Long Bath, the all-time most exclusive cocktail of LLC, you just need to visit Jakes Bar & Still Room.
The festival runs from the 5th June, right through until the 11th. Seven whole days of magical mixology, bar-hopping and funky sessions, all in the name of spirits, celebrating Leeds and its best bars. You can check out the full guide over on the website for Leeds Loves Cocktails and from there purchase your festival wristbands too.
I can’t wait to get involved, and I certainly hope that there are several events that are up your street too.
